We seek a Senior Backend Engineering Manager who will work with a team of engineers to build new web and mobile app experiences from the ground up, as well as integrate new features. You are expected to be a hands-on manager who excels in a dynamic, fast-moving, and agile environment building high-quality, high-performance, and scalable solutions. You will work equally between product, design, and engineering.

Key job responsibilities:

  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with Product Managers, Engineering, Support, and field teams, who assist in product development and adoption

  • Work in cadence with our teams, embracing a mindset of rapid learning, experimentation, iteration, and close collaboration.
  • Thrive in an environment that balances autonomy with teamwork, rewards divergent and convergent thinking, and values your participation in long-term and short-term product decisions.
  • Have a passion for designing and building complex modules that meet functional and business requirements on schedule and within budget.
  • Perform unit/module testing of software to find errors and confirm programs meet specifications.
  • Take pride in providing assistance to QA and Support personnel as needed to determine system problems and solutions.

  • Evaluate the impact of software performance and recommend changes to software design teams.
  • Contribute towards test automation, performance testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Write and maintain documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections.
  • Verify that the work adheres to the reference architecture or informs its evolution.
  • Provide input to establish and improve departmental processes and procedures.

  • Develop plans outlining steps and timetables for developing programs, and communicate plan status to management and other development team members.
  • Participate in design and code reviews with other developers.

  • Mentor, train, develop and serve as a knowledge resource for less experienced Software Engineers.
  • Continuously evaluate progress and guide the Agile Team towards delivering against the non-functional requirements.

Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of proven experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining high performance, high availability, large-scale platforms, and applications.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to grasp and convey complex product requirements or technical concepts.
  • 3+ years of Experience building and managing highly effective engineering teams, conducting performance reviews, making compensation decisions, and recruiting talent.
  • Solid knowledge of JavaScript/Node/React, Java, and web services (REST/JSON);
  • Strong Agile skills and proven track record for product delivery;

  • Solid experience interfacing and integrating with all kinds of SQL (Postgres or MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis) databases
  • Knowledgeable in software architecture design, coding, algorithms, and debugging
  • Understanding AWS basics and CI/CD processes is a plus
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Explaining complex technical concepts to designers, support, and other engineers is no problem for you
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking skills

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience or other evidence of exceptional ability
